Russia is the most preferred MBBS destination for Indian students. 6-year English-medium course, NMC-recognised universities and affordable fees make it the top choice.
Why Russia is the top MBBS destination
Russia hosts more than 12,000 Indian medical students every year. Government universities here have been training Indian doctors for over six decades, and most universities offer a complete English-medium MBBS programme of 6 years (5+1 internship). Tuition is regulated by the Ministry of Health, so fees stay stable and predictable for the entire course.
Eligibility and NEET requirement
To apply for MBBS in Russia, the student must be 17 by 31 December of the admission year, have 50% in PCB (40% for reserved category) and a valid NEET score. NEET qualification is mandatory for any Indian student going abroad for MBBS as per NMC guidelines.
Recognition β NMC, WHO, WDOMS
All Russian universities Shiksha represents are listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS) and are recognised by the National Medical Commission of India. After graduation students need to clear FMGE / NExT to practise in India. The degree is also accepted for USMLE (USA), PLAB (UK) and AMC (Australia) provided respective eligibility is met.
Fees and total cost
Tuition in government universities in Russia ranges from βΉ2.5 lakh to βΉ6 lakh per year depending on city and university tier. Hostel and food add roughly βΉ1 lakh per year. The total 6-year cost remains substantially lower than private medical colleges in India.
Climate, food and lifestyle
Russia gets cold in winter but every hostel has central heating, and Indian mess facilities are available at every major university we work with. Indian students live in dedicated hostels with 24/7 security. Cities like Kazan, Stavropol, Tver and Volgograd have established Indian student communities.
Admission timeline
Russian intake is mainly in September. Process starts in MarchβApril: application, university confirmation, ministry invitation, visa, ticket and travel. The complete process takes about 90β120 days. We recommend students start at least 4 months before intake.
